Jack Reed Sr. Honored As 2011 Champion For Youth

On January 28th, Boys & Girls Clubs of North Mississippi honored Mr. Jack Reed, Sr. as their 2011 Champion For Youth during their Annual Campaign Kick Off Breakfast supporting Tupelo Clubhouses, Haven Acres and Northside.

The event paid tribute to the lifelong commitments that Mr. Reed has made to the quality of life for youth in Tupelo and Lee County.  "I personally know of the commitment he has for supporting and inspiring young people in their pursuit of a meaningful and successful life.  No one from Tupelo or anywhere else is more deserving of this recognition than he is,” stated Reed’s longtime friend, Governor William Winter.

More than $12,000 was contributed by individuals and organizations receiving invitations to the charity event.  According to Zell Long, Chief Professional Officer for Boys & Girls Clubs of North Mississippi, annual gifts are the main source of funds that sustain the organization, whether they are from businesses and corporations or individuals.  "That is why we appreciate so much our donors who give consistently each year to improve the lives of youth at our Clubs”, stated Long.

In addition, Jim O’Hargan, Day-Brite CEO, and chairman of the Boys & Girls Clubs Corporate Development Campaign, presented a check in the amount of $10,000 to kick off the organization’s Corporate Campaign.

The program included participation from both Haven Acres and Northside Club members.  Marcell Johnson, a senior at Tupelo High School and Haven Acres Club member, shared his Boys & Girls Club story and the tremendous impact it has made on his life.  Marcell has even chosen to return to the Club to complete his senior project.
